Sheriff's Office:

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Volunteer Program was established in 1991. The prospective volunteer is interviewed and a limited background investigation is completed before they are assigned to a position.

Most volunteers work four hours a week and some are "on-call" for special assignments. Sheriff's Office volunteers have served in functions such as data entry, fingerprinting, record maintenance, research, data analysis, inventory, library work and Crime Prevention.

Volunteers at the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center help out with such things as literacy counseling, computer programming, equipment maintenance, clothing and bed linen repair, religious counseling and physical fitness training for inmates.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is always looking for volunteers. If you can spare a few hours a week, we would love to have you work with us.

Detention and Rehabilitation Center:

A wide variety of services are performed by numerous volunteers of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office. For more information on available positions, please contact the Sheriff's Office.
Under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator, these civic-minded individuals have assisted in the smooth and consistent operation of the Detention and Rehabilitation Center. Without their efforts, the quality of life for prisoners in this facility would not be what it is today.
Volunteers performed such duties as helping mend worn prison jumpsuits, made pillowcases from old sheets, provided critical assistance in maintaining inmate files and ensuring reading material was available to inmates.
