Sheriff Steven Hall
Sheriff Steven Hall is the elected Sheriff of St. Mary’s County, Maryland, serving as the 135th Sheriff in the oldest continuously operating Sheriff’s Office in the United States.
He began his career with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office in 1994 as a Correctional Officer and was appointed Deputy Sheriff in 1996. Rising through the ranks, he was promoted to Captain in 2010, leading both the Patrol and Special Operations Divisions—two of the agency’s most dynamic units.
Throughout his career, Sheriff Hall has commanded the Emergency Services Team, Civil Disturbance Unit, Polygraph Unit, and Chaplain Corps. He has also served as liaison to the public school system, faith-based partners, and community organizations. A graduate of the FBI National Academy (Session #248), Sheriff Hall has also completed the Maryland Police Leadership Challenge (Outstanding Leader Award, Session XXII), the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), and the National Sheriffs' Leadership Course. He is an alumnus of Leadership Southern Maryland (Class of 2018).
Sheriff Hall holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Colorado University and a master’s degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University. He was sworn in as Sheriff on December 5, 2022.
