You have reached the web site of the St. Mary's County Maryland Sheriff's Office, the oldest Sheriff's Office in the State of Maryland, and one of the first in the nation.  

St. Mary's County Maryland is comprised of approximately 367 square miles, with a resident population of approximately 108,987 which increases to 127,000 with the inclusion of daily commuters and tourists. Sites of interest in our county include Historic Saint Mary's City (the first capital of Maryland), Point Lookout (the location of Camp Hoffman, the prison camp for Confederate soldiers), and the Patuxent River Naval Air Station (home of the U.S. Navy's Test Pilot School).
