Domestic Violence Unit

The Domestic Violence Unit is part of the Criminal Investigations Division. The unit is comprised of a Detective and a Civilian Victim Services Coordinator. Together, they review all reports involving domestic-related issues as well as all assault, harassment, and violation of protective order reports to confirm they are not domestic in nature. The Detective assigned to the unit completes a follow-up with all victims of domestic violence to ensure a thorough investigation and to provide available resources to those victims who are interested. The unit may accompany victims to the District Court Commissioner's Office to obtain protective orders or to court to coordinate with advocates, which may assist the victim through the court process. The unit works closely with the Southern Maryland Center for Family Advocacy and meets bi-weekly to review at-risk victims and discuss possible solutions and services.
