The Public Information Office, led by the Public Information Officer, serves as the Sheriff’s Office’s voice, delivering timely, accurate, and transparent communication to the citizens of St. Mary’s County
The Public Information Office is led by the Public Information Officer (PIO), who serves as the Sheriff’s Office’s primary spokesperson and communications advisor. Through this position, the office carries out a wide range of responsibilities to ensure transparency, foster trust, and keep the community informed.
The Public Information Office manages media relations, public messaging, and crisis communications on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office. Through timely and accurate information, the office ensures that all communications align with the agency’s mission of protecting and serving the citizens of St. Mary’s County.
In addition to responding to media inquiries, the office proactively highlights the work of the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office. This includes producing weekly video reports, coordinating social media outreach, and publishing news releases that showcase law enforcement efforts, community partnerships, and crime prevention initiatives.
The Public Information Office also organizes public engagement opportunities—such as town halls and community forums—that encourage open dialogue between residents and law enforcement.
Through these efforts, the Public Information Office serves as a vital link between the Sheriff’s Office and the community, ensuring that the public remains informed, engaged, and confident in their local law enforcement agency.
