The Administrative Division operates under the command of Division Commander Captain Sarah Smith. The division’s primary objective is to provide comprehensive administrative support to all components of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. Its functions are essential to the daily operations and mission of the agency.

The Administrative Division is responsible for maintaining concise, accurate, and secure records; recruiting and hiring qualified personnel; updating and maintaining agency equipment; and developing and administering the agency budget. The division also manages the agency’s Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation process and oversees policy development.

Additional responsibilities include fleet services, such as vehicle purchasing, maintenance, and readiness, as well as the management and security of digital evidence, including in-car and body-worn camera footage and other digital items of evidentiary value. Through these efforts, the Administrative Division ensures that the Sheriff’s Office remains efficient, transparent, and prepared to meet the needs of the community.
